Programming is something I picked up on my own — no degree, nobody showing me the way, just HTML and CSS and a lot of trial and error. What caught me first was simple curiosity: a handful of tags, and a page appears on the screen. It was the one hobby I never gave up, and eventually it became how I earn a living.

Most of the projects I take on, I carry alone from the first conversation to production: the brief, the screens, the stack, the front end and the API, the deploy, and then the years of patching that follow. Working alone keeps you honest — a day saved today often costs a week six months later — so I make the foundations deliberately dull and then leave them alone.

I read about new tools, but I rarely reach for them on sight. Three questions decide it for me: will this still be readable in six months, can a bad change be rolled back, and does the page open quickly on an older phone? And if I can't say in one sentence who a feature is for, the problem isn't the user's understanding — I just haven't thought it through yet.
